Mad dogs and Englishwomen go out in the pouring rain...

The Sri Lakan word for "crazy" is pisu.

And according to Rathna - Joan, Lydia and I are all pisu. Explanation to follow!

Didn't do much yesterday - 4 hours on the internet looking for work! When we were finished it was time to meet Joan and Rathna for dinner. We went to this place called the Salt and Pepper, basically a restaurant underneath a canopy with cheap plastic chairs and beery teapots. It was seriously cheap, and seriously good. Lydia had a divine prawn curry, and I had the best paneer butter masala on the face of earth with rice and garlic naan. Recommended!

We had quite a few beery teapots (which I am really growing to love), so obviously several teapots later - quite a full bladder. Unfortunately at this particular restaurant their toilet was, "that tree over there," so Joan, Lydia and I headed off into the night, our mission being to find a clean Western toilet. No mean feat in this country I tell you.

It was absolutely chucking down with rain, a real monsoon - so the three of us - umbrellas at the ready headed out. Oh I didn't tell you, did I? I bought an umbrella - a lovely purple and silver jobbie. Only Rs180. Anyway - we strolled out into the pouring rain when all of a sudden the need to do a Singing In The Rain struck us. Life would not be complete if we didn't do a tap dance in a ginormous puddle. You get the picture. Three mad Englishwomen all dancing around, skipping, spinning our umbrellas, our clothes drenched. Pisu.

Joan and Rathna are off to Ooty today - we're really going to miss their company, they're the most lovely couple ever. Lydia reckons that Joan reminds her of her mum, she reminds me of my Auntie Paul. Joan said that a lot of people are always telling her that she reminds them of someone. To which I replied, "yeah, but it's a big compliment if it's someone they really love."

Lydia and I have a 10 hour bus ride ahead of us to Mysore. They say it's a deluxe bus - we all know what that means. I'm not sitting by the window this time!

Oh, my run of bad luck has ended (touch wood), and Lydia's has just started. In Varkala when walking down a path she accidently stubbed her big toe on a step. It was quite painful, but she thought it would be OK. The past three days she has been regularly ramming her foot into steps/tables/beds/other random objects. Not really sure how or why. I think she likes the pain. Her toenail is now bleeding and she suspects its going to fall off before Goa. Lovely!

Right I'll be off now - wasn't really supposed to be on the internet - but it's coming down with rain again so sightseeing off the itinerary for today. Oh well. There's always next year!

I'm glad to hear you had a good time in Puri - it's really beautiful there, isn't it? The Z Hotel is fantastic, so many interesting people.

What's Bangalore like? We're heading there on the 19th. Any tips? We're off to Mysore today - finally (new blog post will explain).

Do you have plans to visit Cochin? It's fantastic here - can recommend a few things if you're heading this way.
